Odor Removal When showing your home for sale, always bear in mind that the house's odor is vital no matter how clean and pleasant the home may appear. Odor can distort how people feel about the house.

The Source

The most important thing to remember when tackling an odor problem is the source. The origin or the area the odor originates. Finding the cause is essential. Every effort must be attempted to locate the source of the smell.

Source Method Of Detection

If you are aware of the smell in your home and have a good idea where it is coming from, you are halfway home to solve the problem. However, in some cases, you may not even be aware there is an odor at all. Remember, you are in the home all the time, and your sense of smell may be what I refer to as relaxed. The solution to this problem is to find someone you are comfortable with and who will be honest with you and have them walk through the home. Locating sources of odors can be easy or very difficult. Still, there are methods available that can assist you.

Common Odors

Some of the most common unwanted odors in a home are pets, smoke mildew, and Human. Providing the source has been located. These odors can be permanently removed.

Pet Odor

One of the more common odors we want to remove when selling your home. No matter how much we love our pets, we must accept that pet odor does and will deter a prospective buyer. A good tip is to leave emotions out of it. Offending my dog is just the same as insulting me, but this is business, and you are on a mission. Most pets are house trained but may have experienced an accident once or twice if these were quickly cleaned and removed; there should not be a problem. Most difficult times with pets are the early stages of training. That's when most of the damage occurs. Repeated areas are cause for concern. In extreme cases, it is highly recommended you contact me or another professional as attempting to mask or temporarily remove the odor can make removal more difficult. If you are having a difficult time locating pet urine, the intense black light will find the actual urine and be a handy tool for determining the source. In addition to the pet and human urine, the UV will also pick up mold or mildew. Ozone machines, as well as thermal fogging, can be essential in some cases.

Smoke

The smoke odor could come from cigarettes, cigars, even cooking, and wood stoves. If a woman fried prepared the food in her house for thirty years, there is a good chance of an odor. If a smoker smoked indoors, no doubt there is odor. Years of wood stove use can leave odors on ceilings and or walls. In mild cases, good old fashion elbow grease should suffice. However, some cases may require ozone treatment and or thermal fogging, which reaches anywhere smoke can go.
